Publishable assets in Cascade CMS include folders, pages, and files. Remember that files may include a wide range of content, including images and PDFs.

Publish Now

  1. Navigate to the page or file you want to publish in the asset tree and select it.
  2. Click the Publish button in the toolbar when previewing a publishable asset or right-click an asset and select Publish from the context menu.
  3. Click Publish to publish the asset now with the default settings.
  4. To publish to either the QA or Live web site only, select View Publish Settings, and check only the specific destination(s) you want to publish to:
    • To only publish to the live site, uncheck the QA site destination.
    • To only publish to the QA web site, uncheck both live site destinations.
  5. To view your newly published page or file, select More and, from the menu that appears, select Live. Your page or file will open in a new window.
    • To view QA pages or files, just type "qa" in front of the URL. For example, https://qaweb.richmond.edu/.
    • Please note that when sharing QA pages or files with others, they will need to be connected to the campus network or to the VPN if off-campus.
Common Error Message

Although it contains HTML content, attached content is not a publishable asset. An error message will appear when attempting to publish it. To publish updated attached content, you can publish the pages that use the attached content by viewing its Relationships.

Publish Later

Individual assets can be scheduled to publish once at a future date and time by choosing a date/time in the Optionally Publish Later field when publishing the asset. Until this date, the asset will still be indexable but not publishable and will not be included in other publish jobs such as folder or site publishes.

Once scheduled for publishing, an asset will be added to your site’s Publish Queue at the specified date/time. Note that the actual rendering and publishing of the asset could begin later if there are jobs ahead of it in the Publish Queue at the specified time.

You can cancel a future scheduled publish with the Unschedule link when previewing the asset.

Publish Queue

Each site in Cascade CMS has its own publish queue that can process up to 2 jobs at a time. To view the publish queue, click the system menu button (in the upper right corner) while in a site and select Publish Queue. When viewing a site’s publish queue, you can also see other active publish jobs.

To cancel jobs in the publish queue, select a job from the list and click the Delete button.

Publish Settings

When View Publish Settings is selected, the following fields are visible:

  • View & Publish Related Content (if applicable) - Publish the asset's linked and manual Relationships.
  • Generate a publish report - Send a summary of the items published (including any errors) to your user Notifications.
  • Destinations - Select the Outputs that you'd like to publish.
    • All sites have three Destinations: two for the production web servers (CMSWEB1 and CMSWEB2) and one for the QA web server (VMCMSWEB1).
    • By default, all destinations are selected.
